Laylat al-Qadr, or the Night of Power, is a deeply significant night in Islam, observed during the last ten days of Ramadan. It is believed to be the night when the Qur’an was first revealed. Filipino Muslims, particularly in Mindanao and provinces like Sulu, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi, observe this sacred night with extended Taraweeh prayers, Qiyam-ul-Layl (late-night prayers), and Qur’an recitation. They also engage in supplications, asking for Allah’s forgiveness and mercy, and perform acts of charity to earn multiplied rewards. Despite being a minority in a predominantly Christian country, Filipino Muslims hold Laylat al-Qadr close to their hearts as a time for deep reflection, community bonding, and spiritual renewal. This night offers them a final opportunity to seek Allah’s blessings before the end of Ramadan.
