Bacoor Cityhood Day

Bacoor officially became a city on June 23, 2012, following a public vote and extensive legislative proceedings. Before that, it had long been one of the busiest municipalities in Cavite, known primarily for being a shortcut, a bottleneck, or that place you hit before the tollgate. Since getting city status, though, Bacoor has worked on shedding the “just-passing-through” reputation and started building its own story.

Cityhood Day is treated like a local holiday. Government offices are closed, schools are taking the day off, and the city government is lining up its usual program. Expect a flag raising, a civic parade, and speeches from city leaders about infrastructure, public service, and how Bacoor has been growing in all directions. You may also hear about drainage projects and traffic solutions, whether they have been completed or not.

There is also a cultural side to the celebration. You might catch performances at the plaza, booths set up by different barangays, and possibly a concert or a fireworks display if it’s a bigger year. Some years, they bring in guest performers. At other times, it’s all local talent. Either way, people show up, take photos, and look for snacks.

What is interesting about Bacoor is how fast it changed. From a primarily residential town to a full-fledged city with malls, schools, offices, and its own skyline emerging in certain areas. Cityhood Day is not just a box to tick. It serves as a reminder that this place now has its own distinct identity. Not just a suburb. Not just a stop between Manila and the rest of Cavite.
