Zamboanga del Norte Day is celebrated every June 6 to mark the founding of the province. The occasion commemorates the official establishment of Zamboanga del Norte in 1952, when Republic Act No. 711 divided the old Zamboanga province into Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur.
The province was created to improve administration and development in the Zamboanga Peninsula region. Dipolog City was named the capital and remains the seat of provincial government.
Zamboanga del Norte Day is observed with various official programs, cultural presentations, and community events organised by the provincial government, local government units, and schools. The day typically includes:
- Flag-raising ceremonies
- Parades and civic programs
- Cultural performances showcasing local traditions
- Recognition of outstanding individuals and public servants
The celebration highlights the province’s cultural diversity, with participation from communities representing Cebuano settlers, Subanen indigenous groups, and other ethnic backgrounds found throughout the province’s 25 municipalities and 2 component cities.
